PDMA warns of drought risk in Punjab, threatening key crops
Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert to address the potential drought due to insufficient rainfall in the province.
The letter sent to all commissioners, deputy commissioners, and relevant departments in Punjab states that, according to the Meteorological Department, rainfall during winter has been 38% lower than usual. As a result, there is an increased risk of drought in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Rahim Yar Khan.
The reduced rainfall could significantly impact the Rabi season, with lower rice production potentially leading to financial losses for farmers.
PDMA has confirmed that arrangements have been made to tackle the anticipated water shortage in Thal and Cholistan. However, the administration has been urged to remain vigilant and to inform farmers ahead of time about the potential water scarcity.
