LHC issues order in ‘Chaiwala’ Arshad Khan identity card case
The Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bench has issued a written order regarding a case filed by social media personality Arshad Khan, widely known as “Chaiwala,” who is challenging the cancellation of his national identity card (CNIC) and passport.
During the hearing presided over by Justice Jawad Hassan, notices were served to all relevant parties, including the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), requiring them to submit their responses by April 17.
In his petition, Arshad Khan questioned the legality of the decision to block his CNIC and passport, which reportedly followed a rumor broadcasted on a television channel that raised doubts about his nationality. His attorney argued that this action has jeopardized Khan’s future and career.
The counsel for the petitioner asserted that Arshad Khan is a Pakistani citizen with a documented lineage of citizenship.
He further claimed that the requirement for proof of citizenship prior to 1978 is both unjust and malicious, highlighting that under the Pakistan Citizenship Act of 1951, obtaining a passport is a fundamental right of every citizen.
The government attorney objected to the maintainability of the petition, stating that Khan had not provided any documentation to verify his Pakistani citizenship.

The government maintained that the decision to block Khan’s CNIC and passport was lawful and justified as per the court order.
The court has directed the government’s legal representatives to ensure that all pertinent departments submit their reports on this matter before the next hearing scheduled for April 17.
