Rawalpindi: PTI leaders released after arrests; Chairman urged to implement judicial orders
Several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, including the three sisters of PTI founder Imran Khan, were arrested during a protest near the Gorakhpur checkpoint in Rawalpindi.
The detained individuals, including Aaliya Hamza, Shafqat Awan, and Sahibzada Hamid Raza, were later released.
After being taken into custody, the women activists, including the founder’s sisters, were transported to a private wedding hall. Upon arrival, the women exited the police van and sat in the hall’s lawn. Police officers were seen accompanying the detained women, and the wedding hall’s main gate was shut to prevent public entry.
Earlier, the protest had turned chaotic, with PTI workers clashing with police. Aaliya Hamza and Shafqat Awan were arrested outside Adiala Jail, and Imran Khan’s three sisters were also detained and placed into a vehicle. PTI activists reportedly pelted stones at the police and clashed physically with law enforcement, including an altercation involving Atif Khan. PTI activist Tayyaba Raja was among the first to be arrested.

Convicted Bushra Bibi appeals for better facilities at Adiala Jail
According to police officials, the protesters had attempted to march toward Adiala Jail. In response, two prisoner transport vans were sent to the Gorakhpur checkpoint.
Barrister Gohar, PTI Chairman, expressed concern over the detention of the founder’s sisters, questioning why they were not allowed a meeting with them as per judicial order. “Just like the family of Bushra Bibi was allowed a meeting, Imran Khan’s family should also be allowed,” he said, emphasizing that the party had not been informed about the arrests beforehand.
Police authorities have stated that the detained individuals will be dealt with according to the law. PTI condemned the actions, calling the detentions unjust.
In a related development, today was scheduled as the meeting day for PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi at Adiala Jail. However, Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, was stopped by the police at the Gorakhpur checkpoint, located a short distance from the jail. Police checkpoints were set up on both sides of Adiala Jail by Rawalpindi police forces.
