Dar, Rubio discuss bilateral ties and security cooperation
In a recent telephonic conversation, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammad Ishaq Dar, to discuss a range of issues including bilateral relations, regional security, and economic cooperation.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening the Pakistan-US partnership. Ishaq Dar expressed Pakistan’s strong commitment to enhancing cooperation with the United States, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and counter-terrorism.
Secretary Rubio showed interest in expanding collaboration with Pakistan in key sectors, especially mineral resources, trade, and investment. He highlighted that robust economic engagement is essential for the future of Pakistan-US relations.
During the call, Ishaq Dar also referenced Pakistan’s significant sacrifices in the war against terrorism from 2013 to 2018, noting the heavy human and financial costs the country endured. In response, Secretary Rubio appreciated Pakistan’s efforts and reiterated the US’s interest in continuing counter-terrorism cooperation in the future.

The two leaders also agreed on resolving the matter of US military equipment present in Afghanistan, and committed to maintaining close communication to pursue shared interests.
