Renowned psychiatrist Professor Syed Haroon Ahmed passes away in Karachi
Pakistan’s distinguished psychiatrist and human rights advocate, Professor Syed Haroon Ahmed, passed away in Karachi on Thursday. He was a pioneer in mental health services in the country and remained actively involved in social and political movements.
Professor Haroon laid the foundations of mental health assistance in the country and played an active role in social and political movements.
He was also known for his struggle for human rights, minority rights and secularism, and served the field of medicine for almost six decades.
His funeral prayer will be offered after Juma prayer on Friday April 4, 2025 at Masjid Abu Bakr Siddiq, Bilawal Chorangi, besides Shell Petrol Pump, Block 2 Clifton, Karachi.
The burial will be held in Korangi No. 1.5 graveyard, Chakra Goth, Korangi Creek (across Creek General hospital).
A prayer gathering (dua) will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at F-2/B Block 4, Clifton, Karachi, from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
Professor Haroon is survived by his wife, two sons, and a daughter.
