Addressing a press conference, Iqbal Town Superintendent of Police (SP) Abid Zafar confirmed that Ali Sher had admitted to raping the woman along with his accomplices.

Law enforcement is actively interrogating the arrested suspects while conducting raids to capture the remaining suspect.

Earlier, SP Abid Zafar detailed that three robbers had stopped the couple and, during the robbery, brutally assaulted the woman. The victim was identified as an employee of the University of Agriculture Faisalabad.

According to police, the attack took place at 10pm on the night of the 25th, after which special teams were formed. Within 24 hours, Ali Sher was arrested, and he confessed to the crime.

CM commends swift police action

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif lauded law enforcement for apprehending the suspect within hours and directed authorities to ensure the arrest of the remaining culprits without delay.

She emphasised that violence against women is unacceptable and vowed to take all necessary measures to protect women and children.

Details of the horrific assault

The victim and her husband were traveling when three unidentified armed robbers intercepted them near a motorway bridge.

After looting cash and mobile phones, the assailants forced the couple into a sugarcane field, tied the husband to a tree, and gang-raped the woman before fleeing. Following the incident, the victim and her husband recorded video statements, identifying Ali Sher as one of the attackers. Based on this testimony, police registered a case and arrested Ali Sher, who later confessed.

Authorities confirmed that the victim’s medical examination and forensic analysis of the crime scene have been completed. Police have also detained six suspects for questioning.

The victim’s husband identified Ali Sher, stating that he was called by the other two robbers before participating in the assault.

Police have vowed to bring all perpetrators to justice as the case continues to unfold.

In the 2020 motorway rape case, two men were sentenced to death after they raped the victim in front of her children when they broke into their car, which had run out of petrol near Lahore.
