A woman was allegedly gang-raped by three armed robbers in front of her husband and their three-year-old daughter in Hafizabad district near Lahore.

The family was traveling by motorcycle when they were stopped by the assailants, who then took the woman to a nearby field and sexually assaulted her as her helpless family watched.

The horrific crime has sparked outrage across Pakistan and beyond. According to reports, the police from the neighboring Hafizabad and Nankana Sahib districts engaged in a dispute over jurisdiction, delaying the response and leaving the traumatized family unattended for over an hour before a case was registered.

The Hafizabad police have since arrested one suspect and dispatched a team to Rawalpindi to track down the other two perpetrators, who allegedly fled the scene.

The rape survivor has been shifted to a hospital for medical care.
