IMF approves reduction in electricity tariffs
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has granted approval for a modest reduction of Rs1 in electricity tariffs, which will be applied as relief in the basic tariff for each electricity unit.
This change will benefit all consumers, providing relief from electricity prices.
The funding for this relief will come from revenue generated through a levy imposed on captive power plants, specifically targeting their gas consumption.
In addition to this tariff reduction, the government is actively developing a relief package for electricity consumers.
Furthermore, more details of this package will be announced as this will receive working approval from the IMF.
