Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has announced a sit-in on April 5 at the Sindh IG office during a protest held at Malir Halt against the tragic incident, where a tanker collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of a family.

During the protest, Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Emir, Munim Zafar, criticised the incompetent Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government, stating that due to their failure, tankers have turned into deadly machines on roads.

While addressing the protesters, Munim Zafar blamed governmental negligence for the increasing number of fatalities in traffic accidents. He also pointed out that despite the seriousness of the issue, the Chief Minister of Sindh had downplayed it by calling it not a political issue.

Zafar questioned the chief minister of Sindh, minister of Transport, IG, and DIG, asking why has no action been taken against dumpers and tankers and why they are not performing their duties?

He further stated that illegal dumpers and tankers are freely roaming the streets of Karachi in broad daylight while the chief minister remains a silent spectator. Munim Zafar emphasised that JI cannot abandon the citizens of Karachi and will continue to fight for their rights.

He also demanded that residents of Karachi be recruited into the police, as the current traffic police officers have no connection to the issues faced by the city.

Munim Zafar exposed the system of corruption within the police department, stating that bribery is rampant from SHO to DIG, and there is no one to hold them accountable.

He also mentioned that in the past 85 days, 216 people have lost their lives due to accidents involving heavy traffic. He questioned the authority of the Sindh government, asking why they were not addressing the grievances of the people.

Yesterday, near Malir Halt, a speeding water tanker collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the death of the motorcyclist, his wife, and their unborn child.

The deceased husband, Abdul Qayoom, was taking his pregnant wife to the hospital for a check-up when the accident occurred.

Angry individuals smashed the windows of the water tanker and attempted to set it on fire. The police arrived at the scene, arrested the driver and helper, and seized the tanker.
