Meningitis vaccine now mandatory for Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia has announced that the meningitis vaccine will be compulsory for all pilgrims attending Hajj 2025. Both Saudi citizens and foreign pilgrims will be required to receive the vaccination in order to participate in the pilgrimage. Those who fail to meet this requirement will be denied permission to undertake Hajj.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has clarified that Hajj packages and registrations will not be processed for individuals who have not received the vaccine. This decision is a crucial step in preventing the spread of infectious diseases during the pilgrimage. The Ministry emphasized that controlling the transmission of contagious diseases is a top priority to ensure the health and safety of all pilgrims.
In addition to the meningitis vaccine requirement, the Saudi Ministry of Health had already issued health guidelines for Umrah pilgrims in January, which included mandatory vaccinations and other precautionary measures to minimize health risks.
Furthermore, the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has notified pilgrims to carry necessary health documents, including vaccination certificates, when traveling for Hajj. This is part of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of pilgrims and prevent the spread of diseases.
These measures highlight Saudi Arabia’s commitment to safeguarding the health of all pilgrims and maintaining a safe environment during one of the world’s largest religious gatherings.
