Dera Ghazi Khan police repel extremist attack on Jhangi check post
Dera Ghazi Khan police thwarted a major terrorist attack on the Jhangi check post near the Wahowa border station. Around 20 to 25 extremists launched a coordinated assault under the cover of night, using rocket launchers and advanced automatic weapons. Alert police personnel responded with intense retaliatory fire, forcing the terrorists to flee.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, this was the second attempt by extremist terrorists to target the Jhangi check post. The attack occurred on Pakistan Day, when brave officers were already conducting major operations against criminal elements in Katcha and extremists in Dera Ghazi Khan.
The spokesperson added that RPO Dera Ghazi Khan Sajad Manj led the operation, with DPO Syed Ali also present at the site. Following the attack, a search operation is underway to locate the fleeing terrorists. Initial reports suggest casualties among the terrorists due to police fire.
Inspector General of Punjab Police Dr. Usman Anwar praised the Dera Ghazi Khan police for their vigilance and highlighted that the Jhangi check post has been reinforced with additional personnel, modern equipment, and advanced weaponry through Punjab government funding.
He further stated that Punjab police officers stand as a solid barrier against enemies of the nation, ensuring public safety through their courage and commitment.
Pakistan has witnessed increasing terror attack last week.
On Sunday, an attempted militant infiltration at Pakistan-Afghanistan border was foiled, and all 16 terrorists were killed. In a related development, gunfire incidents in Lakki Marwat and Swat left two police officers martyred and three injured.
