Faisal Karim Kundi: PTI govt wanted to open Taliban’s office in the past
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has claimed that Afghanistan’s soil is being used against Pakistan, a concern repeatedly conveyed to the Afghan government.
He also alleged that the PTI government in the past was eager to provide the Taliban with an official office.
Speaking at a press conference at Governor House Peshawar, Kundi addressed national security, Afghanistan’s situation, and political matters.
He emphasised that opposition parties should have been part of the National Security meeting but were absent. He also pointed out that Imran Khan’s political asylum efforts were a key reason for PTI’s non-participation.

Kundi clarified that there was no mention of any military operation or attack on Afghanistan during the meeting. However, targeted operations have been ongoing in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for some time, particularly in the southern districts, where the security situation remains critical.
He strongly criticised the use of derogatory language against the military, stating that state matters should be handled institutionally. He also dismissed claims that the province had sent any Terms of Reference (TORs) to the Foreign Office.
Referring to Afghanistan’s involvement in Pakistan’s security challenges, Kundi reiterated that American weapons left behind after the withdrawal are now in the hands of militants.
He also mentioned that JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman had visited Afghanistan, but no follow-up occurred.
Kundi accused PTI of neglecting national security concerns, stating that no PTI representative attended the funeral of any martyr.
He also questioned Pakistan’s prolonged hospitality towards Afghan refugees, asking, “Can we extend our visa stay in any foreign country even for a single day?”
The governor also highlighted governance issues, stressing the need for a Council of Common Interests (CCI) meeting to resolve Sindh’s water problems and lamenting the lack of progress on the NFC Award due to the absence of a finance minister.
Regarding Afghan refugees, Kundi stated that any policy change regarding their repatriation would be decided by the federal government, and he has already sent a letter to the centre regarding this matter.
