Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has firmly declared that not a single drop of water from the Indus River will be given away, stressing that discussions on canals should not be a cause for objection.

Addressing the Sindh Assembly, Shah highlighted critical issues, including water distribution, elections, the role of the opposition, and government performance. He recalled that when he previously spoke on the water crisis, a resolution was also presented on the matter.

Referring to the opposition leader’s speech, the chief minister urged against questioning intentions.

“The people of this province have elected us, and we will fulfil their expectations,” he asserted.

Shah emphasised that he has secured more votes and seats in each of the past four elections, proving the public’s trust in him. He also acknowledged that even the opposition leader admitted there was no reason to doubt his intentions.

Addressing opposition members, he stated that they, too, were elected by the people and assured that he would not question their motives.

Shah marked a personal milestone by delivering his 100th speech in the Sindh Assembly, congratulating the entire house. He noted improvements in the assembly’s environment, citing that 100 members participated in discussions this year, compared to only 31 during the 2023 budget session.

On water distribution, the Sindh CM asserted that there should be no objections to the extraction of six canals. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring Karachi’s water supply, saying, “I was born and raised in Karachi and have always consumed Indus River water. Karachi is the heart of this country — how can we not think about it?”

Shah also highlighted procedural reforms in the assembly, mentioning the introduction of Rule 143, which is unique to Sindh’s legislature. He assured that every member has the opportunity to speak and that all recommendations and suggestions would be considered.
