Qatar’s Hamad International Airport launches two new concourses

Qatar’s Hamad International Airport has officially opened its highly anticipated Concourses D and E, marking a significant expansion aimed at increasing the airport’s capacity to accommodate over 65 million passengers annually.

In 2024, the airport served 52.7 million passengers, highlighting the need for this development.

The expansion, which commenced in 2018, culminates in what officials describe as the final phase of a transformative journey that began with the introduction of the indoor tropical garden known as the Orchard in 2022.

The new concourses seamlessly integrate with the existing terminal, now covering 842,000 square meters a 14% increase. The airport has added 17 new aircraft contact gates, bringing the total to 62, representing a nearly 40% rise in gate capacity.

CEO of Qatar Airways Group, Badr Mohammed Al-Meer,expressed his satisfaction with the project’s completion ahead of schedule, emphasizing its role in enhancing the Qatar Airways network and supporting economic growth in line with Qatar’s National Vision 2030.

He noted that this development is not only about increasing capacity but also about meeting global travel demands and solidifying Qatar’s position as a leading aviation hub.

The new concourses feature advanced self-boarding systems designed to expedite passenger processing, incorporating smart technology that streamlines document verification and minimizes wait times.

With the increased gate capacity and optimized flight operations, the airport is set to improve service for a larger number of international carriers and offer more direct routes to crucial global destinations.

The expansion adds 2,700 square meters to the airport’s retail space, enhancing passenger experience and connectivity. Chief Operating Officer ,Hamad Ali Al Khater at Hamad International Airport, stated that the development aims to optimize resource management and ensure efficient passenger services.
