Authorities have registered an FIR for the recent terror attack on the Jaffar Express in Balochistan’s Bolan district.

According to police sources, the case has been filed at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) station in Naseerabad against unidentified terrorists. The charges include provisions from the Anti-Terrorism Act and the Railway Act, among other legal sections.

The FIR details that the Jaffar Express departed from Quetta for Peshawar at 9am, and at 1pm, terrorists detonated explosives on the railway track. Following the blast, they opened fire on the train and passengers using firearms and rocket launchers.

The train, comprising 11 bogies, carried a large number of passengers. Security forces launched an operation, successfully rescuing hostages, but no arrests have been made so far.

On March 11, the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack, taking passengers hostage. A two-day security operation resulted in the elimination of all terrorists.

On March 14, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt-Gen Ahmad Sharif disclosed that 26 passengers were martyred in the attack. Security forces rescued 354 hostages, including 37 injured individuals.

Among the martyrs, 18 belonged to the Pakistan Army and Frontier Corps, three were railway employees, and five were civilians.

Lt-Gen Ahmad Sharif accused Pakistan’s “eastern neighbour” of sponsoring terrorism in the country. He stated that after the attack, Indian media spread propaganda using fake AI-generated videos to mislead the world.

According to the ISPR, the terrorists remained in constant contact with their handlers in Afghanistan throughout the incident.

On the morning of March 12, Pakistani forces used snipers to neutralise the militants, allowing some hostages to escape. However, some hostages were also martyred due to terrorist gunfire.

Security forces continue their investigation, while authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
