Punjab Home Department announces changes to arms licences verification
The Punjab Home Department has announced changes to improve the verification process of weapon licences.
Home Department Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal has instructed the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to create QR codes for online verification of all weapon licences, aimed at helping law enforcement agencies to easily confirm if the licences were valid or not.
In a recent meeting led by the secretary, it was decided that QR codes would be attached to weapon licences within a week.
NADRA has also been directed to link each licence to the individual’s identification card for better tracking.
Punjab’s commissioners and deputy commissioners are required to provide QR codes for all weapon licence-related orders.
Mengal noted that people involved in “serious crimes will not be allowed to obtain weapon licenses.”
To assist citizens further, changes are being made to the rules governing arms, making the process simpler for both individual and business licenses.
