Halle Berry recreates iconic 2003 kiss with Adrien Brody at Oscars 2025
In a surprising twist at the 2025 Oscars, actress Halle Berry greeted actor Adrien Brody with a kiss on the red carpet, rekindling memories of their moment at the 2003 Academy Awards.
Berry, who was set to present at the ceremony, spotted Brody, the star of The Brutalist and a best actor nominee, and took the opportunity to playfully repay him for their now-famous kiss from over two decades ago.
“That was one hell of a night for him, and for me as well. To be a part of his moment… tonight I had to pay him back,” Berry told Variety.
“I’ve seen him out at parties, but this is the first time since that night that I’ve seen him on the red carpet. He’s nominated this year. He deserved that.”
Berry and Brody first made headlines at the 2003 Oscars when Berry presented Brody with the best actor award for his role in The Pianist.
In his acceptance speech, Brody embraced Berry and kissed her, joking, “I bet they didn’t tell you that was in the gift bag.” The unexpected kiss and Berry’s shocked reaction captured significant media attention, but Brody recently reflected on the moment in a Variety cover story.
“We live in a very conscious time, which is a wonderful thing,” Brody stated. “Nothing that I ever do or have done or would’ve done is ever done with the intention of making anyone feel bad.”
Berry, who seems to have put any past tensions aside, congratulated Brody on his recent Golden Globe win for The Brutalist. She commented on his Instagram post, saying, “Congratulations my friend. You are truly one of one!”

Brody went on to win the second best actor Oscar of his career for his searing portrayal of a Hungarian architect who emigrates to America after World War II in The Brutalist.
He won in 2003 for Roman Polanski’s The Pianist, becoming the youngest man ever to triumph in the category at age 29.
The Brutalist tells the story of a Hungarian immigrant who escapes the atrocities of World War II to start anew in the United States.
