Will Keanu Reeves return as John Wick in fifth installment after Ballerina?
Lionsgate has confirmed the development of John Wick: Chapter 5, though the involvement of Keanu Reeves remains unclear.
Jenefer Brown, a Lionsgate executive, discussed the continuation of the franchise, stating that the “world continues to grow” with potential spin-offs, a TV series, and a video game.
Brown mentioned, “We are developing a fifth John Wick film… [John Wick] may be [dead]. We are all on bated breath waiting to find out.”
The upcoming spin-off film, Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, is set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, which raises the possibility of Reeves reprising his role.
But the fourth installment of the movie concluded with little indication of Wick’s survival. Reeves recently stated, “The character’s dead. He died in John Wick: Chapter 4,” adding that there were “no plans” for his return.

Producer Basil Iwanyk noted the physical toll of the films on Reeves, stating, “By the end, he’s always like, ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him.”
In a December 2024 interview, Reeves expressed uncertainty about returning, citing the demanding nature of the stunt work. “You can never say never but my knees right now are saying, ‘You can’t do another John Wick,’” he said.
In addition to his involvement in Ballerina, Reeves voiced the character Shadow in Sonic the Hedgehog 3. His upcoming projects include Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune, where he plays a guardian angel.
