Microsoft resolves Outlook outage affecting thousands

Microsoft has said that an update for thousands of customers, following a significant outage of its Outlook services on the evening of March 1. The company reported that “a majority” of the affected Outlook services had recovered.

The tech giant initiated an investigation into the issue on Saturday, which impacted users across various Microsoft 365 services.

Reports of service disruptions started to surface around 8:40pm, according to the service status website Downdetector. By 9:15pm on March 1, Microsoft had received over 9,000 reports related to the Outlook outage, with users in London and Manchester particularly affected. Nearly half of such reports indicated issues with logging in.

In an update on X, Microsoft stated, “Our telemetry indicates that a majority of impacted services are recovering following our change. We’ll continue to monitor until all services are fully restored.”

The company identified a potential cause of the outage around 10pm. After the reversion of the problematic code change, Microsoft confirmed that it had monitored service telemetry and worked with previously affected users to ensure that services were restored.
