Nationwide shutter-down strike in solidarity with Palestinians
In a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people, a shutter-down strike has been called across the country by Jamaat-e-Islami, leading to the complete closure of commercial centers in various cities.
In Peshawar, key business areas such as Qissa Khwani, Khyber Bazaar, Peepal Mandi, Saddar, and Hashtnagar are seeing all shops closed. The Traders’ Organization has announced plans to set up a protest camp at Rampura Gate.
Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman, emphasized that this nationwide strike is an expression of solidarity with the people of Gaza, stating that the Pakistani nation cannot accept the genocide of Palestinians.
The All City Traders’ Alliance in Karachi has distanced itself from the strike, with leader Sharjeel Goplani asserting, “The Karachi Timber Market will remain fully open today; we have no connection with Jamaat-e-Islami’s strike. We already voiced our protest on April 7.”
Some Karachi traders have submitted a letter to the IG Sindh against Jamaat-e-Islami.
Sheikh Muhammad Irshad, Chairman of the Jami Alliance Market Association, claimed in the letter that they have received threatening messages regarding today’s strike from Jamaat-e-Islami and have requested police protection.
