Meta to fully deploy AI to verify users’ real age on Instagram
Meta, the renowned tech giant, will now rely on artificial intelligence to verify users’ actual age across its platforms.
According to reports, this AI tool will be able to determine a user’s real age even if they enter false information.
Instagram will use this AI technology to ensure age accuracy; if a user inputs an incorrect age, the system will automatically detect it and shift those under 18 into designated teen accounts.
The company had initially announced this AI-driven age verification initiative in 2024.
These teen accounts are specifically designed for users aged 13 to 17 and include various restrictions to protect younger audiences.
In a blog post, Meta stated that if there’s any doubt about a user’s age, the system will immediately trigger an age verification process and apply restricted settings to the account.
While Meta acknowledged that the system might make occasional errors, it assured users that settings can be manually adjusted if necessary.
The company added that while AI has been in partial use for age detection, it will now be fully implemented across the platform.
