Karachi faces another water shortage due to repair work
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation has advised that residents should ration water in advance and use it sparingly, as the city would experience a 40% shortfall in water supply over the next three days.
Major areas across all districts, including South, Keamari, West, Korangi, Malir, East, and Central, would be affected because of repairs on two main supply lines, Dawn reported.
A spokesperson for the utility stated that the metropolitan city receives a daily supply of 650 million gallons of water, but the repairs would result in a significant reduction of 250 million gallons.
The repairs would impact water availability in older neighbourhoods, including Shershah, PAF Base Masroor, Landhi, Korangi, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, and Pak Colony.
Despite repairs, the KWSC stated that 400 million gallons of water per day would still be supplied as usual.

The repairs on the 48-inch FTM and 54-inch CTM pipelines began on Saturday and are expected to be completed within 72 hours. A spokesperson noted that once the work was finished, the city’s water supply would significantly improve. Affected areas, including Manzoor Goth, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, and Peeli Kothi in Liaquatabad, would have repair work conducted to address the issues.
KWSC Managing Director Asadullah Khan has emphasized the importance of ensuring an uninterrupted water supply throughout Ramazan, instructing that all leaks in the water pipelines be repaired before the holy month begins.
In the recent past, Karachi faced several water crises, including prolonged shortages due to underground main line leaks on University Road.
The supply was resumed after 17 days. The 84-inch line was ruptured at two locations.
