Sindh to set ‘world record in April’ with 2.1 million houses construction
The Sindh government would soon set a world record with the construction of 2.1 million houses for flood-affected people, Sindh’s Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Saturday.
“The world’s largest housing project has started, under which 2.1 million houses would be constructed and in the first phase, 700,000 houses are being built,” he said at a press conference in the Rawal House, Rahukui, Tandojam.
“In April, the Sindh government’s name will be included in the Guinness Book of World Records due to this project, as Sindh has accomplished this feat after a disaster.”
A meeting was held with the World Bank delegation in Karachi where they were briefed on the Sindh People’s Housing Project. Reports said the WB representatives praised the project.
“This project by the Sindh government is about to become a great project in the history of the world and has received international awards, which is an honour for Pakistan,” he said and added that the provincial government also has the statistics for women and men who were being granted ownership rights to such houses.
Last year, the Sindh People’s Housing Foundation said that it had completed the construction of more than 300,000 houses.
Through the project, houses would be constructed for more than 2.1 million families displaced in the 2022 floods in Sindh. “All these houses are being built keeping in mind the challenges of climate change,” the statement said.
