Khurram Dastgir: Government open to peaceful PTI rallies
Former federal minister and senior PML-N leader Khurram Dastgir said that the government achieved economic stability despite PTI’s disruptive tactics.
Speaking on Aaj News’ programme “Insight with Aamir Zia”, he said, “PTI is welcome to hold two or three peaceful rallies anywhere they wish, and the government will gladly grant them permission.”
Dastgir emphasised the government’s economic achievements, claiming that inflation had been reduced from 38% to 2.4%, and the State Bank of Pakistan’s discount rate had dropped from 22% to 12%.
He expressed optimism about industrial growth, increased exports, and rising remittances, asserting that Pakistan was moving towards a positive financial trajectory.
Dastgir accused PTI of using state resources from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to repeatedly attack the federal government.
“They have a destructive agenda, constantly rejecting designated venues for protests, aiming to disrupt livelihoods,” he said.

Salman Akram Raja: Imran Khan decided to expel Sher Afzal Marwat
PTI fallout: Sher Afzal Marwat blames Salman Akram Raja for his ouster
Referring to past violent incidents, he remarked, “We should never have reached a point where we had to witness funerals of five Rangers and a police officer.”
Highlighting PTI’s past actions, Dastgir recalled attacks on Parliament, PTV, police personnel, and the burning of Radio Pakistan Peshawar and Jinnah House.
“If PTI wants their 31% vote share to be respected, they must also respect the 69% that voted for other parties currently in power,” he asserted, adding that any electoral challenges should be addressed in the Election Tribunal.
Rauf Hassan on Marwat’s expulsion
PTI leader Rauf Hassan also appeared on the programme, clarifying that Sher Afzal Marwat had received multiple show-cause notices before his eventual expulsion.
“He held a party position, which was revoked. He was removed from the Central Committee, yet he continued to violate party discipline by publicly discussing internal matters and using inappropriate language against party leaders,” Hassan stated.
He detailed how Marwat had forcefully taken the mic from Salman Akram Raja during the Swabi rally, disrupting the event. “This level of indiscipline cannot be tolerated in a party as large and popular as PTI,” he remarked.
Hassan also alleged that PTI had been infiltrated by “planted individuals” working against the party’s interests.
However, he remained confident in the party’s resilience, stating, “Despite various tactics used against us, PTI is growing stronger. The party will now enforce stricter discipline, ensuring that those who undermine its leadership and members face consequences.” He concluded by warning that those expelled from the party were working on external agendas. “A few troublemakers cannot damage PTI.
The party is too big and too strong to be affected by them,“ he asserted.
