Fakhar Zaman would not be joining the national team in Dubai for the ICC Champions Trophy tournament after getting injured in the historic match, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Thursday.

The PCB confirmed that Zaman would not be travelling with the team to Dubai. The ICC will provide additional updates as necessary.

The decision follows an injury the swashbuckling batter sustained while fielding during Pakistan’s match against New Zealand at Karachi’s National Stadium on Wednesday.

It was confirmed that he would not be travelling with the team to Dubai.

Pakistan’s upcoming match is set to be a crucial encounter against India on Sunday in Dubai, especially after India declined to travel to Pakistan for their scheduled matches.

Pakistan failed to chase down New Zealand’s target of 321 runs in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy, concluding their innings at 260 all out.

Zaman, the star batter in the 2017 Champions Trophy final, did not open, as part-time openers Saud Shakeel and Babar Azam took the crease to start the innings for Pakistan. He came to the crease at the fourth wicket, but could not perform well as due to the injury he could not take singles.
