London Mayor Sadiq Khan expects Pakistan Vs England Champions Trophy final
As cricket enthusiasts prepare for the highly anticipated ICC Champions Trophy 2025, London Mayor Sadiq Khan has expressed his hope for a final between Pakistan and England.
The tournament, marking Pakistan’s return to hosting major international cricket after nearly 30 years, is set to take place from February 19 to March 9.
Khan shared his approach to supporting sports teams. “I have a rule: I always support the winner. I don’t lose that way. I hope it’s a great Champions Trophy,” he told Geo News.
The tournament will kick off with an opening match in Karachi, featuring Pakistan against New Zealand at the National Bank Cricket Stadium. But the spotlight will be on the much-anticipated clash between arch-rivals Pakistan and India, scheduled for February 23 in Dubai.
Khan even invited selectors from both teams to reach out to him if they needed assistance. “If you are the selector of either Pakistan or England, then I am available. I can take time off and will play.”
He also expressed optimism regarding the performance of Pakistani star batter Babar Azam, hoping for a return to form as the tournament progresses. Khan noted the strength of other teams, particularly Australia and South Africa while wishing for a safe and successful tournament.
While reflecting on the past few years, Khan expressed disappointment over the absence of international teams visiting Pakistan and emphasised the importance of a successful ICC tournament for the country.
“It’s unfortunate that international teams have not been visiting Pakistan for many years. I am hoping it’s a successful ICC tournament. If the home team does well, then it’s a good tournament. Maybe a Pakistan-England final.”
