Shair Afzal Marwat: Nawaz Sharif was ousted with Gen Bajwa and Saqib Nisar’s collaboration

Says PTI could not have played a role in Nawaz's ousting; he was removed unjustly

Shair Afzal Marwat, a former member of the National Assembly from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has spoken in support of the former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader, Nawaz Sharif.

He claimed that Nawaz Sharif was ousted with the collaboration of former Army Chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and then Chief Justice Saqib Nisar.

In an interview with a private TV channel, Marwat stated that Nawaz Sharif never understood why he was removed from office.

He emphasised that General Bajwa, along with Saqib Nisar, had wrongly removed Nawaz Sharif from power.

He also said that PTI had no role in his ousting, and the decision was unjust.

Marwat pointed out the similarities between his own situation and that of Nawaz Sharif.

He even echoed the infamous slogan “Mujhe Kiyun Nikala?” (Why was I ousted?) on the floor of the assembly.

Marwat claimed that while Nawaz Sharif was removed for an unjust reason, had it been related to the Panama Papers or the Avenfield properties, the situation might have been different.

However, Sharif was ousted for not accepting a salary from his son, which Marwat found to be a wrongful justification.

Criticises PTI

Marwat also criticised his expulsion from the PTI for the third time, questioning the motivations behind it.

He expressed his frustration that people within PTI were spreading baseless rumors about his ambitions.

He denied any intention to replace the party founder and emphasised that his popularity among the people was not his fault.

Further, Marwat accused the establishment of trying to fragment PTI post-election and targeting him, Ali Amin Gandapur, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, and Pervez Elahi by accusing them of being traitors.

He claimed that within PTI, a “traitor” narrative was being pushed.

It is noteworthy that Marwat was expelled from PTI on February 12, and two days later, on February 14, he openly questioned his expulsion in the National Assembly.

During a session chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, Marwat entered through the government gate instead of the opposition gate, prompting desk thumping from government members.

Speaker Sadiq remarked, “Don’t get him killed.”

During the session’s question period, when asked about the merger of mobile companies, Marwat responded by stating that his only question was for his own party: “Why was I expelled?”
