KP governor also condemned the incident, emphasising that local authorities, police, and university officials must ensure a transparent probe.

Governor Kundi expressed deep sorrow over the professor’s alleged misconduct, calling it a disgraceful act that hinders women’s progress in education and society.

He stressed that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s cultural values do not tolerate such incidents and urged strict action against those who exploit students.

“Such shameful acts put the credibility of higher education institutions at stake,” he remarked.

University responds to harassment allegations

In response to the scandal, Malakand University issued a statement confirming the professor’s suspension.

The administration revealed that the accused had allegedly attempted to marry the student by visiting her home.

The university’s Anti-Harassment Committee convened to hear the complainant’s statement, and the case has been forwarded to the syndicate for disciplinary action.

A university spokesperson assured that an impartial investigation would be conducted and that the case would be pursued to its logical conclusion.

“The university upholds a zero-tolerance policy against harassment, and all available evidence will be considered to ensure justice,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, law enforcement has formally arrested the professor and transferred him to jail. His court appearance on February 18 is expected to set the stage for further legal proceedings in what is being seen as a major test of accountability within Pakistan’s higher education system.
