How an anonymous letter helped police rescue man held in captivity for years
It was not sure what the Neela Police Station officers in Punjab’s Chakwal read in an anonymous letter would be true. But it did when they raided a house. They rescued a man held in captivity for years in Gagh village, however, they were late as another captive, his sister, was found dead.
The deceased was identified as Jabeen Bibi, 26. Her body was around eight to 10 days old, police said. The brother, named Hassan Raza, 32, was also found in a nearby room but was too “frightened to speak.”
They were held “captive for nearly two years” in an abandoned house over a land dispute, according to the letter.
Sources within the police said the anonymous letter addressed to the Neela SHO was received via Pakistan Post. It was directed not to the SHO, but to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. It detailed the “plight of siblings Jabeen Bibi and Hassan Raza, children of Chaudhry Zarm Taj, who have been held captive in their home.”
The letter claimed that their parents passed more than two years ago. It alleged that their cousin had administered them harmful medications, rendering them “semi-deranged.” The siblings were reportedly locked in rooms without adequate clothing, exposed to the harsh cold. “A woman occasionally fed them through a window.”
It accused their cousins of perpetrating the abuse to seize their property worth millions. A police officer, seeking anonymity, stated that the siblings were believed to “own seven to eight hundred kanals of agricultural land” and they have no other siblings or relatives to assist them.
The writer of the letter claimed that the siblings were not insane but had been drugged. The person expressed remorse for their inability to intervene directly, stating that they “felt guilty and could only write the plea.” He urged authorities to rescue the siblings, provide them with medical treatment, and place them in a shelter home.

While acting on the information, the Neela Police Station SHO obtained a search warrant from a magistrate and accompanied by his team conducted a raid on the specified house. Upon arrival, the doors to the rooms were locked. When police forced open one of the doors, they “discovered Bibi’s body on the floor, which was approximately eight to ten days old. Her body showed blue markings on her back.”
Raza was found in another room. Hassan’s mental state was “unstable” and he was “extremely frightened” rendering him unable to speak, according to police.
A police officer stated that Hassan would undergo a medical examination soon to assess his mental condition and determine whether he had been given harmful medications. The police have initiated operations to arrest the suspects.
