Senator Ali Zafar writes to CJP to postpone meeting of Judicial Commission

The letter comes after four judges also demanded postponement

Senator Ali Zafar, a member of the Judicial Commission, has written to Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi requesting the postponement of the commission’s meeting.

In his letter, Senator Zafar argued that the meeting should be adjourned until the seniority issue of judges in the Islamabad High Court is resolved. He stated that recent judge transfers have altered the High Court’s seniority list, potentially impacting the judicial system.

The letter further suggests that these transfers create the impression of an arrangement specifically designed to influence the appeals of PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

Senator Zafar proposed that postponing the Judicial Commission meeting until the seniority issue is resolved would be appropriate. Alternatively, if the meeting is unavoidable, the recently transferred judges should not be considered, he wrote.

Recently, four judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan had also written to the Chief Justice of Pakistan for postponement of the meeting.
