Karachi bans littering in open spaces for two months
The Karachi Commissioner has issued a notification imposing a two-month ban on littering and burning waste in open spaces and dumping debris and waste into drains, effective January 23.
The ban comes in response to complaints from the Sindh Solid Waste Board regarding the increasing amount of waste in open areas and drains, leading to environmental pollution and the risk of drain blockages.
The notification empowers Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) to register complaints against those violating the ban and to take action under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
Section 144 allows authorities to issue orders to prevent the commission of acts that may cause a breach of peace or endanger human life, health, or safety. The ban aims to address the growing environmental concerns and mitigate the risk of flooding caused by blocked drains.
