Karachi’s weather to take a sharp turn soon
Karachi residents can expect continued dry and cool weather over the next 24 hours, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). Light fog is predicted for Wednesday morning.
The PMD recorded a minimum temperature of 12.5°C in the city on Tuesday. This is expected to fall further, ranging between 11°C and 13°C over the next 24 hours. Northeast winds will prevail, with humidity levels currently at 52%.
However, a significant change is on the horizon. A cold wave is forecast to sweep across Karachi and other parts of Sindh starting January 24, potentially bringing temperatures down to single digits by the end of the month.
This cold snap is linked to westerly winds that are expected to bring rainfall to various parts of the country, along with snowfall in mountainous regions.
The PMD also provided context by noting that Sunday morning saw a minimum temperature of 10.2°C in Karachi, representing a significant 4.3°C drop from the previous day.
Looking at the broader national picture, the next 12 hours are expected to bring mainly cold and dry weather across most of the country. Exceptions include Northwest Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, where rain and snowfall over the hills are likely.
Light to moderate fog is also anticipated in patches across most districts of Punjab and upper Sindh during morning and night hours.
