Traffic chaos at Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal as people protest against power outages

Protesters claim power supply has been cut off for past four days

A long queue of vehicles was seen at Karachi’s Shahrah-e-Faisal as people affected by power outages from K-Electric took to the streets and blocked the road to protest.

Residents around the FTC Flyover area held demonstrations against KE, police said. The protesters claimed that the power supply had been cut off for the past four days and urged both the federal and Sindh governments to take “immediate action” to restore electricity.

As a result of the protest, police reported severe traffic congestion on Shahrah-e-Faisal, leading to long queues of vehicles.

Protests against loadshedding have increased in the city, with people blocking key arteries in the city.

Earlier this week, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority approved a refund of Rs4.98 per unit for K-Electric consumers, related to November’s fuel cost adjustment, to be reflected in February bills. In a public hearing regarding the adjustment, Nepra raised concerns about KE’s significant dependence on the national grid for its power supply.
