PTI calls emergency core committee meeting tonight
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has summoned a core committee meeting tonight (Saturday), sources said. Party leaders are scheduled to meet at 10pm.
It would focus on discussions regarding the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case.
Negotiations are expected to be a “key topic” of conversation. Moreover, strategies concerning PTI’s future course of action would be formulated.
This meeting comes at a critical time as the party navigates ongoing legal challenges and prepares for upcoming political manoeuvres.
On Friday, an accountability court sentenced jailed former prime minister Imran Khan to 14 years and his wife to seven years in jail in the £190 million Al Qadir Trust case.
The court which held its hearing in the Adiala Jail found both suspects guilty of corruption. The PTI founder has been fined Rs1 million while Bushra Bibi has received a fine of Rs500,000.
Accountability Court judge, Justice Nasir Javed Rana warned that failure to pay fines would result in an additional six months sentence for the PTI founder and three months for Bibi.

The court has ordered the seizure of Al-Qadir Trust University, placing it under the custody of the federal government.
In reaction, Khan’s lawyer said that the legal team would challenge the decision in the high court.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Gohar Ali Khan had said that talks with the government committee would continue despite the party founder and his wife’s conviction.
