Jailed former prime minister Imran Khan sharply reacted to the £190 million Al Qadir Trust case verdict as he questioned the “credibility” of the judicial system.

“Today’s decision has tarnished the credibility of the judiciary,” Khan told reporters inside Adiala Jail where the hearing was held.

In a landmark decision, an accountability court in Adiala Jail sentenced the PTI founder under Section 10-A of the NAB Ordinance 1999. The court found the founder guilty of corruption, leading to a sentence of 14 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs1 million.

Should the founder fail to pay the fine, an additional 6 months of imprisonment would be imposed, the court said.

His wife Bushra Bibi has also been found guilty of aiding in the crime, resulting in a sentence of seven years of rigorous imprisonment under the same ordinance. She has also been fined Rs500,000, with a further 3-month sentence added for non-payment of the fine.

The court has ordered the seizure of Al-Qadir Trust University, placing it under the custody of the federal government.

He claimed that the case brought him no benefit and caused no harm to the government. “I do not seek any relief,” Khan said and vowed to face all the cases against him head-on.

“A dictator is orchestrating the situation for personal gain,” the former premier said and claimed that police officers who violated the sanctity of private property were rewarded with plots.

The PTI founder also pointed out the alleged disparity in punishments, claiming that those who stand with the government “are free while dissenters face penalties.”

He defended his wife, describing her as a “homemaker with no involvement” in the case, and suggested that her sentencing was a means to “inflict pain upon him.”
