Inside the courtroom: Imran Khan’s £190m case hearing from reporter’s eye
When jailed former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi were handed down lengthy life terms in the Adiala Jail on Friday, Aaj News correspondent Naveed Akbar was also inside the prison cell-turned-courtroom
It was his first experience to see the jail from inside and the proceedings being run in a cell.
An accountability court sentenced the PTI founder to 14 years in prison and his wife to a seven-year jail term handed to his wife.
Judge Nasir Javed Rana-led court also imposed fines on the two convicts, amounting to Rs1 million and Rs500,000, respectively. Failure to pay the fines would result in an additional six months in jail for the two, the court said.
While speaking about the environment inside the courtroom, the reporter said that the environment was calm and Khan’s family, including his sister, Bibi’s family, and PTI leaders were present.

Reporters were kept at a long distance from the place where the judge was sitting, however, they were brought near to the dais after reporters requested to come forward.
Both the suspects were whispering when the judge was announcing the decision while Khan’s sisters were worried. “Khan did not seem to be concerned and seemed that it was pre-prepared for the decision,” Akbar said, “But Khan was angry when the verdict was announced to his wife and he also expressed his anger.”
The reporter said that the former prime minister expressed his “displeasure” over the court’s verdict.
“I will not seek any relief and fight my cases,” Khan told reporters after the verdict.
