PMD tells public to prepare for wave of cold
Pakistan is expected to experience mainly cold and dry weather on Friday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). However, hilly areas will see very cold conditions, with moderate to dense fog likely in patches during morning and night hours across much of Punjab, upper Sindh, and the plains of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Light rain and snowfall are predicted in western Balochistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by evening or night.
The PMD attributes the current weather pattern to continental air dominating most of the country, although a shallow westerly wave is anticipated to affect upper and western regions from Friday evening or night.
Over the past 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed nationwide. Light rain was reported in northern Balochistan, Kashmir, Murree, and Galiyat, while moderate to dense fog blanketed large parts of Punjab. Murree saw one inch of snowfall. The lowest temperatures were recorded in Leh (-11°C), followed by Skardu (-9°C) and Ziarat (-7°C).
Citizens are advised to be prepared for continued cold weather and potential travel disruptions due to fog and snowfall, especially in mountainous regions and areas prone to fog.
