Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, has accused the government of a politically motivated prosecution in the ongoing £190 million case.

Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan is currently imprisoned, she claimed that while her brother is being punished, Asif Zardari facilitated the transaction at the heart of the case. She further asserted that if Imran Khan is implicated in any wrongdoing, Nawaz Sharif should also be held accountable.

Aleema Khan questioned the timing and nature of the charges against her brother, highlighting that the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) had previously determined that the funds in question were not proceeds of theft, but rather a bribe paid by a property tycoon to Nawaz Sharif. She demanded an explanation from Nawaz Sharif regarding the acceptance of this bribe.

She pointed out that the NCA’s investigation cleared the funds of any money laundering or theft allegations. The property tycoon, according to Aleema Khan, later negotiated with the NCA to repatriate the funds to Pakistan, resulting in substantial profits. She alleges that Asif Zardari facilitated the process that led to the levied fine, yet Imran Khan is being targeted for establishing a charitable organization that teaches the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Aleema Khan emphasized that if questions arise regarding Imran Khan’s facilitation of the transaction, Nawaz Sharif must also answer. She expressed concern over the seemingly relentless pursuit of her brother, arguing that the real focus should be on those who actually benefited from the transaction. She stated that her brother is prepared to face the charges and is confident that the high court will overturn the conviction.

She concluded by stating that Imran Khan will continue to fight these cases and that the current ease with which he is being convicted will not last. She expressed confidence that once released, the public will witness the truth.

The accountability court has adjourned the £190 million case until January 17, marking the third postponement of the verdict.
