Pakistan’s ‘elders’ must sit together to solve country’s issues: Abbasi
Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that the country’s situation can only improve if the heads of all parties and institutions sit together and find a way forward.
Speaking to Amir Zia in News Insight on Aaj News, Abbasi said that if the six or seven men in charge of this country cannot sit together than only God can save this country.
He said that all of the country’s leaders claim they are patriotic and they should prove these claims by trying to solve the country’s problems.
Abbasi said the talks cannot be initiated because there is no trust among the stakeholders. He said that politics should not be treated as a zero sum game. He said that a win-win situation can only be created for the country and not for the leaders.
“The country will run fine if it is run as per the constitution,” Abbasi said.
He added that the only way to solve the country’s problems is to enforce rule of law. He said that the country is a completely lawless land.
Abbasi said that in most countries, things can be solved with an election. However, elections are a complete mockery in Pakistan.
The former PM said that the war has ended in Afghanistan but continues on the border with Pakistan. He said that the foreign invaders have left but Pakistan continues to deal with the fallout. He added that diplomacy will have to be restored by accepting Afghanistan as a sovereign country.
