Trump ‘biggest enemy’ of Muslims: Fazl

Says ulema have historically been political leaders

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has denounced former US President Donald Trump as the “biggest enemy of Muslims” during a speech at a religious convention in Multan. He further criticized those who espouse nationalism while simultaneously claiming to be liberal.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman stated that prophets faced immense hardships, contrasting this with the numerous blessings bestowed upon humanity. He asserted that embracing Trump as a brother would only occur if he converted to Islam. He also criticized those who promote nationalism while labeling themselves as liberal, characterizing such behavior as hypocritical.

The JUI-F leader condemned prejudice and narrow-mindedness, noting that those who exhibit such traits often claim to be free-thinking. He emphasized the importance of continuous struggle and perseverance, regardless of public acceptance. He also highlighted the exodus of people from cities due to inadequate facilities. He questioned the transfer of religious leadership from religious scholars to political entities, arguing that politics is a responsibility for religious leaders.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman contrasted the past unity of the Muslim Ummah under religious leadership from the 19th to the mid-20th centuries with the current state of conflict and bloodshed. He claimed that this unity was characterized by a lack of sectarian conflict. He contrasted this with the period following the transfer of political power, which he described as marked by continuous strife. He concluded by emphasizing his commitment to inclusivity, stating his intention to represent all schools of thought and the entire Muslim Ummah.
