Success of talks depends on govt’s attitude: Abbas

Says that issues can be solved in weeks instead of hours

Majlis-e-Wahdat-ul-Muslimeen chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas has put the onus of the success of the ongoing talks on the federal government.

Speaking to Shaukat Piracha on the program ‘Rubaroo’ on Aaj News on Sunday, Abbas said that the government delayed talks by a week when it refused to allow the negotiating committee to meet Imran Khan. He added that the work that is taking weeks can be done ‘in hours’.

Responding to a question about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s demands, Abbas said that the entire country knows what the party’s demands are and the government is simply wasting time by asking for demands in writing.

He said that Imran Khan reiterated in Sunday’s meeting with his party leaders that a judicial commission for the events of May 9 and November 26. Abbas said that Imran has also asked for the release of all political prisoners.

When asked if the production orders of Senator Ejaz Chaudhry were a core demand, Abbas said that the government should itself take such measures to build trust and confidence among the negotiating parties.

He said that the government’s attitude will determine the success of the talks and it should be willing to accept PTI’s demands to be able to concentrate on more important issues in the country. He also regretted the decisions issued by the military courts.

Abbas said that the success fo talks will also help repair the image of the politicians by showing that they are in charge of making decisions in the country.
