Former prime minister Imran Khan would be out of jail in Ramazan’s first or second week, expected to be observed in March, PTI lawmaker Sher Afzal Marwat has claimed.

“Both parties [government and PTI] are aware that negotiations will conclude smoothly,” he said while appearing on a PTV News programme on Saturday.

Marwat, known for his vocal demeanour, added that if anyone speaks against him, they should not expect him to remain silent. He claimed that a campaign against him was underway by people sitting outside the country and a particular group was “crossing boundaries” to which he intends to respond in detail.

The PTI leader claimed that some individuals have earned thousands of dollars on social media while also claiming affiliation with the PTI. He expressed concern that “those working for PTI are receiving insults instead of appreciation, with some being declared traitors.”

He urged PTI supporters, stating that he has not attacked Shahbaz Gill, despite Gill having made multiple videos against him. Marwat warned that he expected such behaviour to cease before it escalated further.

In another interview with a private news channel, the PTI lawmaker mentioned that he had committed to the party, particularly in relation to Salman Akram Raja’s issue, that he would not create further controversies. “No one has the right to make statements against him in the media.”

Marwat said that engaging in media discussions would escalate issues; he assured that he would respond to anyone who speaks about him, regardless of the circumstances.

He also highlighted the “existence of pressure groups” within the party, alleging that the PTI founder was often misled. Marwat clarified that he has never approached Khan for group formation, asserting that he values his respect and requested not to provoke it.

He commented that while only “firecrackers are being exchanged” between the government and PTI, the negotiation process would continue. He noted that the PTI founder had already stated that if demands were submitted in writing, matters should have progressed accordingly.

“Arranging a meeting with the PTI founder is not a serious issue and Imran Khan has indicated that even if meetings are not held, they should still sit at the negotiation table.”

He went on to add that National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq should have convened meetings with a set agenda. According to him, the PTI did not present demands that the government could not fulfil.

“PTI is showing significant restraint, but there are attempts by the government to create discord. The atmosphere will improve once they sit down at the negotiation table.”

While addressing the timeline of negotiations, he questioned what meetings were taking place between November 22 and 25, claiming that the party received offers during that period. He denied claims that no offers were made, stating that “it is incorrect to suggest otherwise.”

Marwat also mentioned that he was unaware of any backdoor communications, but pointed out that those who engaged in such communications in the past were part of the negotiation team.
