Tensions rise as govt, PTI negotiations falter after Aleema Khan’s alleged chats leak
Negotiations between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have come to a standstill following a controversial conversation involving PTI founder Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan.
Her remarks regarding leveraging Imran Khan’s imprisonment for political gain have raised tensions between the two sides.
The situation escalated when a purported WhatsApp exchange between Aleema Khan and social media operator Ahsan Alvi surfaced. In this discussion, Aleema Khan questioned the rationale behind securing better living conditions for her brother in prison, suggesting that the public should feel the pain of the current circumstances.
The Prime Minister’s political advisor, Rana Sanaullah, criticized the PTI, stating that the party would not formally present its demands.
During a press conference, he expressed skepticism about PTI’s ability to engage in constructive dialogue, citing internal conflicts and conspiracies within the party.
“The video and its content indicate that the narrative of Imran Khan’s suffering in jail has been deliberately crafted to portray the government as oppressive,” Sanaullah stated.
Senator Irfan Siddiqui also expressed dissatisfaction with PTI’s leadership during an appearance on Aaj News. He questioned why negotiations were ongoing if the government was perceived as temporary and powerless. “If the government is ineffective, why form a committee? Why not come directly to us?” he asked.
Despite the escalating tensions, Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, chairman of the negotiating team, remains optimistic about the talks, noting that Imran Khan has given the green light for negotiations to continue.
