Los Angeles wildfires claim at least 5 lives as fires rage on
In a devastating series of wildfires sweeping across Los Angeles County, at least five people have lost their lives, with officials warning that the death toll may rise.
Governor Gavin Newsom stated that six wind-driven fires, including the destructive Palisades Fire, remain largely uncontained, ravaging thousands of acres and forcing mass evacuations.
The Palisades Fire has become the most destructive in Los Angeles history, scorching over 15,800 acres and destroying at least 1,000 structures in the coastal region between Malibu and Santa Monica.
Meanwhile, the fast-moving Eaton Fire has ballooned to more than 10,600 acres, threatening around 13,000 buildings and displacing approximately 130,000 residents under evacuation orders.
All schools within the Los Angeles Unified School District will be closed Thursday as a precautionary measure, as officials continue to battle extreme fire conditions exacerbated by strong winds and low humidity.

Firefighters are engaged in a desperate effort to contain the blazes, deploying nearly 1,800 personnel to the Palisades Fire alone.
Despite their efforts, conditions remain perilous, with strong winds forecasted to persist throughout the night.
As the situation unfolds, local leaders emphasize the need for residents to stay informed, prepare for evacuations, and avoid impacted areas to assist emergency responders.
