The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has announced a significant increase in its quarterly stipend for Kafaalat beneficiaries, raising the amount from Rs10,500 to Rs13,500 rupees—an increase of 28.57%.

A ceremony to mark this announcement was held at the BISP quarters and attended by Chairperson Rubina Khalid, Secretary Amer Ali Ahmad, and other senior officials. This increase marks the first adjustment in the stipend in over a year, following a previous raise by the former caretaker federal government from Rs8,750 to Rs10,500 last January.

In a previous announcement last September, BISP had revealed plans to increase the quarterly stipend to Rs13,500 by January 2025 and to expand the number of Kafaalat beneficiaries from 9.3 million to 10 million this year.

Notably, BISP’s budget has seen a substantial increase of 27% in the current financial year. Last June, the federal government raised the annual budget for BISP from Rs471.23 billion to Rs598.71 billion for FY 2024-25, effective from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025.
