More roads blocked in Karachi as Ahl-e-Sunnat wal Jamaat stages sit-ins
More roads were blocked in Karachi on Tuesday after the Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat (ASWJ) staged sit-ins at different locations after the Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM) allegedly blocked roads against recent killings in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Parachinar.
The ASWJ’s decision came a day after it warned against road blockades. The party had said it would make a similar decision to the MWM if the roads were not cleared by the day’s end.
Supporters of the religiopolitical party have initiated a protest at Lasbela Chowk and Shahrah-e-Faisal Star Gate, leading to the closure of roads which has contributed to increasing traffic congestion.
Moreover, protests are ongoing at Qayyumabad Chowrangi and Korangi No 5. The ASWJ announced plans for protests at 60 locations across Karachi on Monday, including major areas like Shahrah-e-Faisal, Civic Center, and Haideri.
A spokesperson of the party said that protests would take place at several key locations, including Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, Haideri Market, Sakhi Hassan Mobile Market, Nagan Chowrangi, 4K Chowrangi, Sohrab Goth, and Karimabad.
Meanwhile, MWM central leader Allama Syed Hassan Zafar Naqvi held a press conference to address the protests in Karachi.
“This protest will continue come what may. We will resume protests at locations where they were previously ended,” he said.
On another front, negotiations between the Sindh government and the demonstrators ended without any resolution. Senior Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani, condemned the recent violent incidents, emphasising the need for dialogue and resolution amidst escalating tensions.
