NADRA mandates national identity card for citizens upon turning 18

People should do this in timely manner or face severe consequences

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has made it mandatory for every citizen to obtain a national identity card upon reaching the age of 18, according to a report.

Failure to submit the application in a timely manner may result in severe penalties.

Under Section 9 (1) of the NADRA Ordinance 2000, individuals must apply for their identity card within 90 days of turning 18.

As stipulated in Section 30 (e) of the NADRA Ordinance, violators could face up to six months of hard labor imprisonment, a fine of up to 50,000 rupees, or both penalties.
