DG NADRA fired over false academic records
National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) fired its Director General Zulfiqar Ahmed due to falsified academic credentials.
An investigation by the Higher Education Commission (HEC), initiated at NADRA’s request, revealed inconsistencies in Ahmed’s MBA and BBA degrees.
The HEC found that Ahmed’s MBA degree contained a forged signature, while his BBA degree listed a college name that had changed before the certificate’s issuance.
The Islamabad High Court upheld the HEC’s decision to invalidate the equivalence of Ahmed’s degrees.
After receiving and rejecting Ahmed’s unsatisfactory response to a show-cause notice, NADRA’s chairman dismissed him.
This dismissal follows a separate report indicating NADRA blocked over 71,000 Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) in the past five years due to various issues, prompting a Sindh government request for amendments to the Citizenship Act.
