Thousands of vulnerable pensioners in the United Kingdom are set to experience their first winter in decades without the £200-300 winter fuel payment, as Labour moves forward with its controversial reduction of this support measure, The Independent reported.

Across the UK, millions are grappling with the effects of soaring inflation, which has driven up the cost of essential goods and services to unprecedented levels. Household expenses, including bills, groceries, mortgages, and rents, have reached record highs, contributing to the ongoing cost of living crisis.

In October, inflation surged to 2.3%, marking the largest increase in two years. This rise was unexpected, as experts had anticipated a more modest increase from August’s 1.7%, attributing the spike primarily to higher energy costs.

In light of this challenging economic climate, here’s a summary of the financial assistance available to households this December, along with important dates for benefits recipients to note.

Most benefits and pension payments will be issued as scheduled in December, including:

  • Universal credit

  • State pension

  • Pension credit

  • Child benefit

  • Disability living allowance

  • Personal independence payment

  • Attendance allowance

  • Carer’s allowance

  • Employment support allowance

  • Income support

  • Jobseeker’s allowance

But recipients should note that there is one bank holiday to consider: December 25, Christmas Day. If your usual payment date coincides with Christmas, you can expect to receive your payment on the preceding working day, December 24.
