Senate Committee approves increase in Balochistan Assembly seats
A subcommittee of the Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice has approved a bill to increase the number of seats in the Balochistan Provincial Assembly from 65 to 80.
The subcommittee debated the bill on Monday, subsequently forwarding its approval to the main standing committee.
Senator Anusha Rahman expressed a need for further information before committing to a position on the bill, stating a desire to understand the Election Commission’s perspective and whether seat allocation can be based on area.
Her comments were met with a sarcastic remark from Senator Hamid Khan , who noted the swiftness of the decision compared to the debate surrounding the 26th Amendment.
The bill now awaits further consideration by the House.
